Geography and Climate

Calca lies on a platform located about 2926 meters (9600 ft) above sea level; about 500 meters lower than Cuzco, which has an altitude of 3400 meters. As such, it has a milder climate that the Inca capital.

The year in Calca is divided between wet and dry seasons, with the majority of annual rain falling from October through to March. From May to September weather is dry and warm with sunny skies

Although it can rain at any season, expect sunny afternoons and clean starry cool nights most of the year.

Sudden short spells of cold weather (<em>friajes</em>) may occur in July with temperatures descending just below freezing point.
